Memorizing the Digits of Pi

We had our Pi Memorization Challenge today. Such an amazing challenge. Students received the first 500 digits of Pi on Monday. In that short time, we had most of our class memorize 20-30 digits during this challenge. First place for the entire 5th grade went to Scott, with 82 digits of Pi. Hartley also placed in the top, with 2nd place at 78 digits. Evan placed in 3rd at 72 digits. So simply amazing.

Pi Day

We had a very educational day today learning how circumference and diameter are related on circles. We used pizza pie and fruit pies to measure the diameter and circumference on. Then, we divided the circumference by the diameter to come to the conclusion that circumference is about 3 times that of the diameter. In reality, our class averages for all the pizza pies and fruit pies was 3.1359 (pretty close to 3.14). Thanks to all the families who helped with this fun task.

Reading Week School Spirit

As our school celebrates Reading Week, our classroom surely gets in on the fun. Today we decorated our door with a Reading Week theme. We have also been dressing up all week based on themes the school set. Today was crazy hair day, based off of Dr. Seuss books, especially the Whoville hairstyles.
