Living Museum
Wow! Today the 5th graders were able to be a museum that came to life. After more than a month of work, it all paid off. Students started five weeks ago researching their American hero. They had to read a book and find two other sources on their character. As they researched they took notes on note cards that were broken down into three categories. Then, using their note cards only, they highlighted the most relevant information from the 20-30 cards and typed up a 1 1/2- 2 page research paper, citing each of their sources throughout the paper. Their reports also included a bibliography section. Next, we spent time in class and at home memorizing the entire report. Today they dressed up as the character and "came alive" to parents and hundreds of students.
Computer Science Final Project
We have been working hard for the past month in pulling together all the coding skills we have learned with our Hummingbird Bits. Students presented today on the finished Scientist Project. The project involved researching a famous scientist and creating a short video report, that was posted on YouTube. Next, a QR code was created by the group so students and parents who attend Science Night can easily scan the code on their phones and learn about the scientist without typing in a long web address. Finally, the 3D model of the scientist was created and circuits were bluetoothed to the Ipad where they wrote code to make the scientist come alive. We are excited to show these off Thursday night!
