With Pi Day (March 14th.....3.14) over spring break, we celebrated the idea today in class. Working backward, students measured a variety of round pies to find circumference. Next, they measured as accurately as they could the diameter. Finally, the divided circumference by diameter to realize that 3 is almost always found. After explaining that this means the circumference is about 3 times that of the diameter, we put all the data in Excel and found that our class average of all the groups' measurements was 3.12. Not bad for measuring pies that are not 100% round.

Science of the Sun
We have slowly started to transition into space science, while also still working on physical science. Over the past month and a half, we have measured the length of our shadows at 9:10 am every Tuesday. This week, we will analyze our data of how the shadows have been getting shorter each week. After understanding the movement of the sun and earth in relation to the shortening of the shadow, we will attempt to find patterns in our data to predict the length of our shadows after Spring Break.

The End of Reading Week
We finished up Reading Week with a bang! Thursday was Dr. Seuss day and we had over half the class dressed up in all sorts of craziness. Friday was Pajama Day. There sure were lots of fancy PJs.

Reading Week- Dress Up Days
For reading week, the school has offered some fun dress up days. Today was "Tacky Tourist Day". Our class surely fit in with that!

Computer Science
We kicked off our computer science today. This will be a dedicated block of time on Fridays where students learn to code and work on specific academic content through computer science. Today they became familiar with the Spheros coding robots and started through a series of tasks with a partner.

Beginning our Collaborative Art Project
Today we started our art project, the final woodworking project of the year. We are aiming to build a nice shelving unit, from maple wood, to hang on the wall. We started with sheets of 4 foot by 8 foot plywood (cabinet grade). Students are researching plywood edge banding, how to use wood dowels, and wood dowel jigs. Our goal is to build this one NO screws. Students are learning safety, about types of wood, wood grain, and power tools. What a project.
