Using Snowshoes to Learn!

What a week! Our reading focused on learning about the science and history of the Lake Tahoe area.  Science and math were even threaded into instruction as students learned the science behind how snowshoes help.  Students calculated their PSI (pounds per square inch) based upon their weight and the shoes they had on that day.  Then, they did the same thing with a variety of fake snowshoes to understand how they help spread out a person's surface area.

The trip on Thursday worked out great. We didn't even have to chain up to get to Heavenly!  The forest rangers were great and expanded upon the learning that had taken place in the classroom.
