Social Studies and Iroquois Dances
After learning how the Iroquois tribe was somewhat advanced in their arts with one of their dances, the Rabbit Dance, we applied this to our classroom. Groups of students teamed up this week and selected an animal that was worthy of its own dance. Students created moves that would relate to the animal and practiced a dance to the beat of the Rabbit Dance song. Today they performed the dance and explained why they felt a Native tribe would have chosen that animal to create a dance about. Then each move was explained in their dances.
